Author Visits

I love books! I love reading them, I love writing them, and I love sharing them. I speak to both children and adults on a variety of topics related to writing, the creative life, and my books. I offer both virtual and in-person visits, and I’m happy to adjust my programs to suit the needs of the audience. My visits are interactive, fun, and keep students engaged as they learn. To book a school visit or speaking engagement, view my Speaker Profile at Authors Out Loud and contact Rebecca Miller at rebecca@authorsunbound.com.

School Programs

Picture Book Reading and Q+A Session I do an interactive read aloud of one of my picture books and answer questions from the audience.

Proud to Be Me! I talk about the inspiration for my picture book Birds of a Feather and highlight the emotional journey of the main character. Through interactive reading and conversations about self-acceptance, inclusion, and friendship, I inspire the children to share their own feelings, be proud of who they are, and know that we all belong. Attending my presentation will help students empathize and reflect on the importance of embracing diversity and building an inclusive community.

It’s Okay to Feel! I talk about growing up in India, the country’s love for mangoes, and the inspiration for my picture book Mango Memories. Through interactive reading and conversations about hope and determination, I guide the children to live the emotional journey of the main character who experiences personal growth. Attending my presentation will help students tap into that universal fear that everyone faces at some point—the fear of not belonging or being excluded.

Unwrapping the Gift of Traditions I talk about growing up in India, the country’s love for mangoes, and the inspiration for my picture book Mango Memories. Through interactive reading and conversations about family traditions, I inspire the children to make connections to personal experiences and the experiences of others. Attending my presentation will provide students with an opportunity to appreciate cultural diversity, explore the richness of traditions, and gain a deeper understanding of their own heritage as well as others’.

You Can Be a Writer! I talk about my journey to becoming a children's book writer and invite students into the creative process. Through my picture books Birds of a Feather and Mango Memories, I'll teach students how to craft memorable characters, generate ideas, choose a story structure, and work with elements like refrains and repetition.

Pathway To Publication (for adults/prospective authors) I talk about the essential elements of bringing a picture book to life, the importance of finding and nurturing your creative community, including how connecting with fellow writers can provide invaluable support and insights. Finally, I demystify the steps to getting published, offering practical advice on navigating submissions, working with agents, and understanding the publishing landscape. Whether aspiring author or simply passionate about children's literature, this talk provides inspiration and a roadmap to turning picture book dreams into reality.

Testimonials

“What great lessons we learned from author Sita Singh. Her book Birds of a Feather taught us to have empathy, stick by your friends, encourage, and be you. Go, Mo, Go!” — Stephanie Miles, Innovation and Discovery Specialist, Britton Elementary, Hillard, OH

“Sita Singh read us Birds of a Feather and talked about creating a story, working with an illustrator, and incorporating peacocks, the national bird of India. Her story of celebrating differences is a great fit with our curriculum and the artwork in our classroom.” — Joyce McDermott, Yellow Acorn Montessori, NY

“We love Birds of a Feather and I truly feel like it instills a sense of pride in children and makes them see that any differences that they have is indeed a gift, something that adds to their sense of uniqueness and gives them a sense of belonging amongst their peers. We all have something to add, a special part of ourselves.” — Neeti Prasad, Counselor, M.Ed., Dallas, TX

Birds of a Feather teaches a life lesson about how we all flourish at different times. My favorite line from the book jacket “…a story about finding strength in the things that make us different and beauty in all its forms.” What wonderful advice for all of us!” — Courtney Hinshaw, Teacher & Picture Book Expert, Los Angeles, CA

“I’ve read a fair number of mango-related picture books in the last few years and I have to say this one is far and away the most charming.” — Betsy Bird, Collection Development Manager, Evanston Public Library system, IL

“I think Birds of a Feather is the perfect picture book to read aloud during the first few weeks of school. It will help facilitate conversations about standing tall. Actually, I think I would pair it with Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon.” — John Schumaker, Librarian & Writer, IL
